Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm Expected In Most Parts Of Country: PMD
Rain-windstorm/thunderstorm with isolated hailstorm is expected in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, as per Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast
According to the forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, along with isolated hailstorms, are anticipated in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir within the next 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall is expected in some areas of north Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The synoptic situation indicates that a westerly wave is affecting the western regions of the country and is likely to extend its influence over most upper and central parts by April 26.
The PMD has issued a warning that isolated to heavy rainfall may cause flash floods in local streams and nullahs in specific areas of Balochistan, particularly Noushki, Chagai, Kharan, Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Awaran, Ziarat, Pishin, Harnai, Zhob, Barkhan, and Naseerabad until April 27.
Similarly, isolated to heavy rainfall may lead to flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Dir, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, Kohistan, and Kashmir from April 27 to 29.
There is also a possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan during this period. Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may pose risks to human lives as well as to standing crops, structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.
Over the past 24 hours, dry weather prevailed across most parts of the country, while isolated rain and thunderstorms occurred in Northwest Balochistan and Parachinar. Recorded rainfall included 3mm in Parachinar (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), 2mm in Nokkundi, and 1mm in Quetta (Balochistan). The highest maximum temperatures recorded were 43°C in Dadu, Khairpur, Mohenjo Daro, and Jacobabad.
