Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Approaches ECP For Registration Of His Own Party
The latest reports say that the former prime minister has submitted necessary documents before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a former prime minister and dissatisfied leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has taken steps to establish his own political party by approaching the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for registration.
Abbasi has submitted the required documentation to the ECP in order to register the new political party.
He has expressed his intention to participate in elections under the banner of his newly proposed party and has underscored the importance of adhering to the Election Act 2017 throughout the registration procedure.
Abbasi’s decision follows a trend set by notable figures within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Jahangir Tareen and Pervez Khattak, who have formed their own political parties. This move has been mirrored by several politicians who were previously aligned with PTI.
Jahangir Tareen established the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) in June of the preceding year, while Pervez Khattak launched the PTI Parliamentarians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), drawing significant support from defectors from their respective parties.
Abbasi, who had disagreements with the PML-N, opted not to contest the 2024 general elections. He resigned from his party positions following Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as senior vice-president and chief organizer in the previous year.
Prior to this, Abbasi had served as the prime minister from August 2017 to May 2018.
