IUB Abbasia Campus Lit Up In Blue To Mark World Autism Day
In alignment with the Islamia University of Bahawalpur’s commitment to fostering communities and contributing to socio-economic development, the historic Abbasia Campus building was illuminated in blue on Tuesday in observance of World Autism Awareness Day. This gesture symbolizes solidarity with individuals with autism and their families, highlighting the university’s support for inclusivity and understanding of neurodiversity.
In accordance with the UN observance, World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated every year on April 2nd worldwide. In line with the Islamia University of Bahawalpur’s vision to foster communities and contribute to socio-economic development, the historic Abbasia Campus building was illuminated in blue on this occasion. This gesture serves to express solidarity with individuals with autism and their families, showcasing the university’s commitment to inclusivity and support for neurodiversity.
As a tradition on this day, significant buildings worldwide are illuminated in blue to demonstrate solidarity with individuals affected by autism and to raise awareness about the condition.
In commemoration of World Autism Awareness Day, a special awareness session was held at Abbasia Campus under the supervision of Professor Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Chairman of the Department of Applied Psychology. Faculty members and students participated actively in this event, highlighting the importance of understanding and supporting individuals with autism.
Dr. Muhammad Saleem emphasized that the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2nd as World Autism Awareness Day to underscore the importance of enhancing the quality of life for individuals with autism, enabling them to lead fulfilling and meaningful lives as valued members of society.
Under the guidance of Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, and Dr. Rubina Bhati, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, faculty members and students gathered to demonstrate solidarity with millions of autistic individuals worldwide.
Dr. Saleem expressed gratitude to Shajee ur Rehman from the Registrar Public Relations and Engineering Department for their support in organizing the activity, acknowledging their contributions to the successful execution of the event.
