COP28 President-Designate Welcomes Transitional Committee Agreement To Operationalise Loss And Damage Fund
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and President-Designate of COP28, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached during the Fifth Meeting of the Transitional Committee in Abu Dhabi over the weekend.
The Committee has agreed on a recommended approach to operationalize the fund and establish funding arrangements for Loss and Damage. These proposals will be presented for consideration and, hopefully, adoption by the 198 Parties attending COP28.
“I warmly welcome the agreement reached today in Abu Dhabi by the Transitional Committee. This decisive and robust recommendation to put into action the Loss and Damage Fund and funding arrangements sets the stage for consensus at COP28. The adoption of this recommended approach at COP28 is crucial for the billions of people whose lives and livelihoods are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.”
