BUITEMS VC Calls For Funds Allocation For Varsities
Dr. Khalid Hafeez, the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), announced plans to secure the necessary funds to support education and research in the province’s universities.
He highlighted that BUITEMS is currently incurring an annual loss of Rs 4 billion, which is impacting the education system.
Dr. Hafeez made these remarks during a press conference at BUITEMS.
Expressing his delight at hosting a national-level festival at the institution, Dr. Hafeez mentioned that BUITEMS currently has 160 Ph.D. holders on its faculty, with an additional 160 Ph.D. holders expected to join BUITEMS’ Main Artificial Intelligence Academy within the next three years.
With the support of Germany, experts are being trained to improve environmental conditions and address natural disasters, with the project expected to be completed in three years, he noted.
He pointed out that all universities are facing financial crises and emphasized the need for a dedicated budget for higher education institutions. Dr. Hafeez stressed that separate budgets should be allocated for universities to address their specific issues, noting that there has been no increase in the budget portion for universities over the past five years.
Dr. Hafeez also mentioned the success of the Pakistan Literature Festival held at BUITEMS, which saw twenty thousand attendees over five days—a positive sign for both the university and the province.
He acknowledged that there were some unfortunate incidents involving youth during performances by famous artists at the festival, but these were effectively managed.
