Pakistan, Japan Agrees To Convene ‘Economic Policy Dialogue’

On Wednesday, Japan and Pakistan reached an agreement to promptly convene the next session of their high-level Economic Policy Dialogue.
This consensus was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Pakistan, Wada Mitsuhiro, as stated in a press release.
Accompanying the ambassador was Naoaki Miyata, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Additionally, senior officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs were also present during the meeting.
Minister Ahad Cheema emphasized Pakistan’s deep appreciation for the economic assistance provided by the Government of Japan.
He highlighted the common values and perspectives shared by both nations on global issues, emphasizing the crucial role of Japan’s economic assistance to Pakistan.
Minister Cheema also noted the longstanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Japan, which has spanned over seven decades since its inception in 1954.
Ambassador Wada reiterated Japan’s steadfast commitment to supporting Pakistan in mutually agreed priority sectors, such as health, education, environment, and water.
He briefed the minister on the progress of implementing the ongoing development portfolio funded by the Government of Japan, including the special assistance package provided in response to the catastrophic 2022 floods and the scholarships program aimed at enhancing the capacity of civil service officers in the Government of Pakistan.
Minister Cheema reassured Ambassador Wada of Pakistan’s commitment to close collaboration with the Government of Japan. He pledged to ensure the effective implementation and review of ongoing projects while simultaneously strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
