Member Judicial Water & Environment Commission, Hina Hafeezullah Ishaq, emphasized the importance of introducing environmentally friendly agricultural technology to farmers to combat environmental pollution. She made these remarks while addressing a meeting on environmental pollution held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF).
The meeting was attended by Pro-Vice Chancellor/Dean Faculty of Agriculture UAF, Dr. Muhammad Sarwar Khan, Principal Officer Public Relations and Publications, Dr. Muhammad Jalal Arif, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Qamar Bilal, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Dr. Farzana Rizvi, Dean Engineering, Dr. Anjum Munir, as well as other distinguished individuals.
Hina Hafeezullah emphasized that the government is taking all possible measures to curb elements contributing to environmental pollution. She stressed the importance of halting the practice of burning crop residue by introducing modern technology to farmers. Additionally, she mentioned that heavy fines are being imposed on factories not adhering to environmentally friendly regulations to combat smog and other environmental diseases.
She urged agricultural scientists to actively contribute to making eco-friendly agricultural technology accessible to farmers.
Dr. Muhammad Sarwar Khan highlighted UAF’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness among farmers about adopting zero-tillage and other modern technologies in wheat and rice cultivation, as well as in other crops. He emphasized the importance of promoting science-based research to improve agricultural practices.
Dr. Muhammad Jalal Arif praised the collaborative efforts between UAF scientists, farmers, and industry under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He mentioned the establishment of an agricultural Dera in collaboration with HBL, which aims to provide fertilizers and modern technology to farmers to ensure food security.
