UAE Decides To Suspend Diplomatic Ties With Israel
The UAE is one of the signatories to the US-brokered Abraham Accord agreements aimed at normalizing relations with Israel, a deal inked back in September 2020.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the suspension of diplomatic coordination with Israel.
This decision comes in response to a tragic incident in Gaza where seven aid workers lost their lives, reportedly due to actions by Israeli occupation forces.
Israeli media further reported that the Emirati Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern to the Israeli ambassador, Amir Hayek.
Sources from a Tel Aviv-based news channel emphasized that the Emirati response to the unfortunate incident was one of outrage.
Subsequently, Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, initiated a telephone conversation with his counterpart in the UAE, Abdullah bin Zayed, in an attempt to address the situation.
In an effort to find a resolution, the Director-General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, Yaakov Blitshtein, engaged in discussions with Ambassador Mohammed Mahmoud Al-Khaja. Ambassador Al-Khaja conveyed his deep concern, describing the current state of relations between the two nations as “the darkest day.”
In response to the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the deaths of the aid workers were unintentional.
It’s noteworthy that the UAE is one of the signatories to the US-brokered Abraham Accord agreements, which were aimed at normalizing relations with Israel. These agreements were signed back in September 2020.
