Regional Meteorological Center of Balochistan has forecast heavy rain with wind and thunderstorm at some places in Gwadar (Jiwani, Pasni), Kech (Turbat), Awaran, Chagi, Panjgur, Kharan, Washuk and Noshki districts during the next 24 hours

The Regional Meteorological Center of Balochistan has predicted heavy rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms in several districts, including Gwadar (Jiwani, Pasni), Kech (Turbat), Awaran, Chagi, Panjgur, Kharan, Washuk, and Noshki, over the next 24 hours. The center has advised relevant authorities to remain vigilant for the next 36 to 48 hours.

Additionally, rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Mastung, Sherani, Zhob, Musa Khail, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Kalat, Noshki, Sibi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Loralai, and Harnai on Friday.

In specific areas like Zhob, Musa Khail, and surrounding regions, rain with wind and thundershowers is forecasted within the next 24 hours, while most districts of the province are likely to experience dry weather on Saturday.

During the past 24 hours, cloudy and rainy conditions prevailed in most parts of the province. Rainfall measurements include Samungli receiving 25 mm, Quetta city 05 mm, Kalat 23 mm, Dalbandin 21 mm, Barakhan 16 mm, Zhob 13 mm, and Panjgur 05 mm.

Rain lashed parts of the federal capital on Thursday’s afternoon as per forecast of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicating a westerly weather system affecting most parts of the country

On Thursday afternoon, parts of the Federal capital experienced heavy rainfall, as predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). This was attributed to a westerly weather system affecting most regions of the country.

Similar to other areas, the rain, ranging from light to moderate intensity, commenced in the afternoon and persisted until nightfall in certain parts of the city, with occasional breaks. This rainfall resulted in a drop in temperatures.

The PMD forecasted rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and the possibility of heavy hailstorms in most areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, Islamabad, and northern Balochistan. Additionally, snowfall was anticipated in mountainous regions of the north.

According to the synoptic situation, a strong westerly wave was affecting a majority of the country and was expected to intensify over upper parts during the night.

The PMD issued warnings of potential flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in various areas and the likelihood of landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan, affecting vulnerable locations.

Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning were expected to cause damage to standing crops, structures like electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.

In the past 24 hours, rain, wind, and thunderstorms were reported in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab, with heavy rainfall observed in south Balochistan.

Rainfall measurements during this period were recorded as follows:
– Balochistan: Ormara 69mm, Pasni 35mm, Quetta (Samungli 25mm, City 16mm), Dalbandin 24mm, Zhob 05mm, Kalat 04mm, Nokkundi, Lasbella 03mm, Gwadar, Khuzdar 02mm.
– Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Parachinar 9mm, Malam Jabba 6mm, Kakul 05mm, Charat 03mm, Patan, Saidu Sharif 02mm, Peshawar (Airport, City), Takht bhai 01mm.
– Kashmir: Rawalakot 04mm, Garhi Dupatta 01mm.
– Punjab: Murree 3mm, Islamabad (Airport 03mm, Syedpur 01mm), Sargodha (City) 02mm, Sialkot (Airport, City), Jhelum, Hafizabad, and Attock 01mm.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded were Bahawalnagar 40°C, Jacobabad, Khanpur, Mithi, and Dera Ghazi Khan 38°C.

Pakistan Army took immediate steps and removed the obstacles from the road with heavy machinery and restored the traffic.

The Pakistan Army continues its rescue operations in the rain-affected areas of Swat, Dir, and Chitral. Collaborating with district administrations and other rescue agencies, the army has restored traffic on several roads in these regions.

One significant achievement was the reopening of the Chitral to Peshawar road, which had been closed due to landslides. Prompt action by the Pakistan Army, utilizing heavy machinery, cleared the road of obstacles and facilitated the flow of traffic.

In addition to rescue efforts, the Pakistan Army is extending assistance to tourists in the affected areas.

Furthermore, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has successfully rescued tourist families who were stranded near Khunjerab Pass after an avalanche blocked the road yesterday. The avalanche, spanning 150 meters, trapped over 60 vehicles and more than 180 tourist families.

Using heavy machinery, the FWO cleared the avalanche, allowing for the resumption of traffic. Pakistan Army medical teams are providing aid to the stranded tourists, who faced health risks due to the harsh cold weather conditions.
