On Friday, the fourth death anniversary of the esteemed comedian, artist, writer, and poet Athar Shah Khan, fondly known as “Mr. Jaidi,” was observed.<\/p>\n
Born on January 1, 1943, in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, Athar Shah Khan migrated to Lahore in 1947 with his family. He embarked on his illustrious career as a writer six decades ago at Radio Pakistan, penning approximately 700 plays over 20 years. His radio play “Rang Hi Rang Jaidi Ke Sang” (1973) captivated audiences for over 19 years.<\/p>\n
Subsequently, his iconic portrayal of ‘Jaidi’ in “Intizar Farmaiye” on PTV catapulted him to national fame, becoming a household name across the country. Among his other notable works are “Hello Hello,” “Ba Adab Ba Mulahiza Hoshiyar,” “Haye Jaidi,” “Burger Family,” “Jaidi in Trouble,” “Laakhon Mein Teen,” and “Problem House.”<\/p>\n
His debut as a writer for the silver screen was in the 1970 film “Bazi,” which marked the first collaboration between Muhammad Ali and Nadeem. He also contributed the story for the platinum jubilee Punjabi film “Manji Kithay Dahwan” (1974).<\/p>\n
Mr. Jaidi was renowned for his humorous poetry and participated in numerous Urdu Mushairas, showcasing his distinctive style and wit.<\/p>\n
In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Pride of Performance by the government of Pakistan in 2001.<\/p>\n
Athar Shah Khan Jaidi passed away in Karachi on May 10, 2020, at the age of 76, following a heart attack, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and literary brilliance.<\/p>\n
